KENYA: KenGen seeks CDM transaction adviser
KenGen seeks CDM transaction adviser
Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) is seeking expressions of interest from potential transaction advisers for the sale of certified emission reductions (CERs) from six projects developed under the United Nations’ Clean Development Mechanism. The adviser will sound out market interest for KenGen’s CERs, set out a marketing and sales strategy, establish guidelines and terms of sale, and map potential international markets and advise on the best options. CERs are issued to green energy projects and can be bought by governments and businesses in industrialised countries and used to count towards their emissions target.
The six projects are the optimisation of the 168MW Kiambere hydropower plant, redevelopment of the 20MW Tana hydropower plant, construction of the 5.1MW Ngong windpower project, a 35MW expansion of the Olkaria II geothermal project, construction of the 140MW Olkaria IV, and construction of 30MW Olkaria I Units IV and V.
